Oh the irony. I’m updating these Golden Globe predictions mere hours before I see Ang Lee’s film Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk. The Globes are always an inexact science, just more so today for me. Still, we press on, since I’m due for an update. What might the Hollywood Foreign Press Association be thinking this year? Will they fall in line and anoint Damien Chazelle’s La La Land? Will they go in a completely different direction? We’re closing in on the time where the first precursors will begin to chime in and set the tone. As such, I thought it was apt to speculate on the thoughts of the HFPA and update these Globe predictions.
What you’ll potentially be able to see below is that I’ve begun to factor Ben Affleck’s Live By Night back into the race. Essentially, it’s either that or Clint Eastwood’s Sully as the Warner Brothers horse, so we’ll have to wait and see which one gets the real push. Aside from the impending Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk reveal, we’re still waiting on Fences, Live By Night, and Silence to screen for the first time. Other than that, everything has pretty much been seen. La La Land appears to be the big juggernaut, though watch out for Jackie, which is beginning to come on really strong. There’s some tinkering with my predictions to be seen below, so take a look…
